A maximum of 42.9 in Orihuela on the hottest September day ever in Alicante

Residents of the province of Alicante may have enjoyed the coolest month of August in the last 30 years, but they are certainly paying the price in the first week of September!

Monday was the hottest September day ever recorded in AlicanteThis Monday saw the afternoon temperatures soaring above 40 degrees in many parts of the province, with the maximum of 42.9ºC in Orihuela making it the hottest day of the year so far and at the same time the warmest September day on record in the Costa Blanca. This maximum was exceeded in Sevilla and the Region of Murcia, but even so temperatures were also comfortably over 40 in Novelda (42.2º), Rojales and Pinoso (both 41 degrees).

Only twice have higher temperatures been higher at the weather station of Alicante-Elche airport in El Altet, namely in July 1994 and July 2015, and in the Comunidad Valenciana as a whole Monday was the warmest September day since at least 1950.

The good news is that the province of Alicante is set to cool down a little on Tuesday, but temperatures will still be considerably higher than is usual for the time of year and significant relief is not expected until Thursday.
